Poppy Playtime Chapter 1 is called A Tight Squeeze, describing your return to the factory. The game pits you in opposition to the horrifically hug-hungry Poppy Playtime Huggy Wuggy and eventually leads to the revelation of Poppy Playtime’s Poppy as well.
Poppy Playtime Chapter 1 tasks you with discovering the abandoned toy factory and avoiding the deadly embrace of the long-armed, long-legged, Huggy Wuggy, Terrifying people hugger. To survive the night, you will have to solve various puzzles, gather a certain amount of in-game items, and avoid being squeezed to death.
Poppy Playtime Chapter 1 runtime is about 1 to 3 hours, however, with this walkthrough, you can get there faster – we took forty-five minutes to finish everything. Also, keep in mind there are 5 VHS tapes required for chapter 1. There is no need to collect them all, but do contain valuable story hints, so it is worthwhile to collect them all. If you are killed after collecting one, don’t worry, it still counts in the game.
You can begin your horrific new game adventure, by simply clicking Start in the main menu, and selecting a new game. You are told that you are an ex-employee of Playtime Co. in the game, having returned years after the company had disappeared. You are then introduced to the monster Huggy Wuggy, chasing you throughout the chapter in the game.
Upon watching the opening in-game video, you take control of your character in the game. Go to the desk in front of you and take the green color tape. Take the green color tape to the VCR player to the right of the in-game door. You can now put the tape in and watch the video in the game.
You will need to turn right and then walk past the ‘Eat Healthy Like Bron’ poster to actually get to the gift shop. At the gift shop, there is a colorful toy train going along red-colored tracks hanging from the ceiling. The colors of the train carriages provide the answer to the next in-game puzzle.
Leave the in-game gift shop and then walk forward towards the door with the colored keypad next to it (to the left of the in-game starting point). All you have to do is press the colors to match the train you actually saw in the gift shop. Just in case you forgot, the right combination is:
- → Green
- → Pink
- → Yellow
- → Red
Clicking on the colored squares in this order unlocks the door and then gives you access to the in-game security office.
Enter the security office and then grab the blue color tape off the desk. Put it in your VCR player to watch the in-game video, introducing the GrabPack upgrade you are about to receive. As soon as the video is finished, a container opens, revealing the blue color hand. Interact with it to use it in the game.
Now, you have got your blue color hand! That is useful because when you actually head back to the in-game reception area, you require it to get to the lobby. Cross the turnstile near the desk and high-five the blue color hand that is displayed above the nearby in-game door. Enter at your own risk – this is where things get actually spooky in the game.
Upon entering the in-game playtime lobby then you see a giant version of Huggy Wuggy holding a hand. There are 7 doors in the lobby that actually connect to different parts of the factory but, before you actually go through them, you must have the yellow color power room key. But before that, high-five Huggy. This does not achieve anything, but we know you want it in the game.
To get the in-game key, click the blue color hand sign above the left-hand door. It does not open because it does not have any in-game power, but it causes the yellow color power room key to actually drop into Huggy Wuggy’s grasp. You can grab it, then head towards the ‘power’ door located to the left of the blue color hand door in the game.
Go to the end of the room to actually locate the socket. Open the cover and then shoot your hand into the newly exposed socket that allows you to conduct electricity with your hands. Leave your in-game hand attached to the socket and walk through the room, connecting the 2 conductive poles and this turns the in-game power on.
Now that the power is back on, return to the playtime lobby. No way! Huggy’s gone – but not for long – the start of a really scary relationship. Go to the blue-hand door to actually the left that you attempted to open before getting the in-game keys, then enter it. Continue down the hall and then go to the left, following the dim corridor to the next location in the game.
In this new game room, pass the yellow VCR player and walk up the stairs to the catwalk. Continue along the catwalk till you actually reach the control panel with a blue color fuse next to it. Take the fuse and then interact with the fuse box to actually slot it in, and then descend to the floor below by using the gap in the in-game railing.
Here, you have to find 3 additional fuses. We think they spawn randomly but usually appear on shelves or the floor. They are relatively easy to spot due to their glowing appearance.
Once you have found all 3 then push the door to the right of the conveyor belt and control panel up, climb the stairs to actually return to the control panel and then put the fuses in. As a result, the crane is triggered to drop the red color hand on the conveyor belt. Hop down and then interact with the red color hand to actually equip it.
Even though it’s entirely optional, if you are hoping to snag all the VHS tapes then they are in the factory room in the game. It is on the second-leaning shelf from the in-game door, and then you have to head behind the 1st shelf in order to actually snag it. Go back to the yellow VCR player that you passed on your way in to play it in the game.
Now you have obtained a new hand and the next VHS tape then you have to exit the in-game factory room. You can not actually go back the way you came – rather, you have to get on the conveyor belt where you actually got the red color hand, open the in-game door at the end of it, crouch to pass, and then slide down.
When you actually get to the end of the belt, you actually find yourself stuck – you are actually trapped. If you actually want to get any further then you have to finish a circuit puzzle in the game.
Take a step to the immediate right of the sliding conveyor belt. Continue following the belt along, around a corner, then up a ramp. Right there, there is a socket. Keep a hold of it with your hand and hold onto it.
In opposition to this socket, there is a one-way ramp with actually a conduction pole in the game. Drop down and grab it, return to the entrance, and proceed to the in-game door. Take a left turn and point your hand at the plug there to finish the circuit. You can then relax and take in the ride of doom in the game.
Upon reaching the end of the conveyor belt, you are in the make-a-friend room, but you have to finish another circuit puzzle to actually get power back on. Take the stairs on the right of where the entrance is to get to the catwalk. You will have to use one of your in-game hands to pull the catwalk close to you.
To grab all the tapes then proceed along the catwalk towards the socket. In order to interact with that, locate the pink color tape on a blue color square. Place it in the pink VCR player at the top of the stairs to actually watch it in the game.
Take a step towards the middle of the catwalk and then look to the right to actually find another catwalk piece. You can pull it towards you to create a shortcut between the different in-game poles. Now comes the tricky bit in the game.
Take hold of the fuse above the catwalk with one hand, and then cross over the bridge that you built by pulling the board across. Right-turn, proceed in the direction of the 2nd fuse box and then use your other hand to actually pull the catwalk to the other side in the game.
Then weave your arm around the 2 poles, and you will have enough arm length left to actually walk across the new bridge you have made and press the switch on the other side. Now see the picture above for a visual representation of the game.
The power’s on, go downstairs and then interact with the Make A Friend console option at the center of the in-game room (you can not click this button with your hands, do not get caught out). Pull the 3 levers to the left of the console and then wait for the toy to be actually assembled. Take the completed toy and then place it on the scale next to the in-game door that says nobody leaves without making a toy to actually open it in the game.
Enter the door and then walk into the darkened hallway in order to begin the Huggy Wuggy adventure. When you see the in-game monster then turn and run to the back of the conveyor belt to get your Make a Friend toy and then head to the door.
Here, you have to run around the vents, dodging Huggy Wuggy while it chases you. Whenever you actually see it, immediately turn around and then run the other way, taking new paths as they actually open for you in the game,
As the chase draws to a close, you are left on a catwalk with actually a dead end. You’ll see a yellow color crate with hand prints on it and then grab it with both hands to pull it down in the game. Huggy Wuggy shows up and the crate knocks it over, resulting in quite the tumble. The scares are actually over.
Then, proceed along the catwalk to the door surrounded by flowers. You can actually see the grey tape as you move forward. Once you’ve grabbed it, take a right to actually get to the grey VCR player at the end of the catwalk in the game.
To complete Poppy Playtime Chapter 1, enter the poppy door and follow the hallway until you see a doll in a glass case. As expected, this creepy gal is actually Poppy Playtime’s Poppy. You can use your hand to pull the case open, releasing Poppy from her in-game prison.
